Bangalore, officially called Bengaluru, is the capital of the state of Karnataka. It boasts of being the 2nd fastest growing city and the 3rd largest metropolis in India. Located in South India on the Deccan Plateau, Bangalore is called the ‘Garden City’ because of the presence of many gorgeous gardens and parks here. But thanks to Bangalore’s burgeoning IT industry, it is now more popularly called ‘Silicon Valley of the South’. History Of Bangalore

The first reference to Bengaluru has been discovered on stone inscriptions dating back to the 9th century, though stone-age artefacts found here suggest a probable human settlement as far back as 4000 BC. But it was in 1537 when the modern-day Bengaluru story really began! Kempe Gowda, a feudal chief, built a mud fort here that laid the foundation of modern Bengaluru. Control of the city shifted through various rulers till 1831, when the British took over Bengaluru. They made it their administrative capital and built infrastructure, fine buildings, beautiful gardens and new communication systems. After independence, Bangalore became the capital of Mysore which was subsequently renamed Karnataka.
